I am choosing to do my essay on that poem because it is in a way disturbing. The strangeness of it turned me off of the poem at first, it sort of freaked me out. But it is an unusual poem, which I’m hoping will keep me interested the whole time I am writing the essay. It’s full of emotion, personification and apostrophe. People are always trying to put meaning behind everything, and are always searching for that meaning. This poem illustrates that in an excellent way. The onion is at war with the human that is cutting it. The human is using physical assault against it unknowingly, where as the onion is using words to attempt to educate its agressor.

This poem also freaked me out a little… I had to actually reread it a couple times before I decided to use this for my essay aswell. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the essay, they were very insightful!
One thing I read a little differently was the Onions ambitions in this poem. I feel the onion was indeed trying to educate its agressor, but to some other extent trying to use it’s intellect and philosopical prowess to disuade the human. In the begining the onion trys to reason with the human, which would be the more defensive approach (trying to educate him), but by the end the onion jumps to the offense and uses his words as his weapon and states that his divide heart will “beat himself to death.”
Like I said, your post was very insightful, and I’m glad I came across it!!! I look forward to reading further
